Let Me Feel My Feelings!
What it feels like to have a story idea locked inside your head, but you’re not able to write it out:
- You’re thirsty but you can’t reach that cold glass of water.
- You’re late for work and the person in front of you is from Vermont and driving 15 miles under the speed limit.
- You have to work in an office building when it’s 60 degrees in February.
- There’s a mosquito bite on that horrible, unreachable part of your back.
Also, it is basically FOMO.
F (fear)
O (of)
M (missing)
O (out)
When my sister and I lived with our cousin Allison, Allison would use the bathroom at the very end of the hall, far from the living room where we would hang out, but she’d keep the door wide open so she wouldn’t miss a word of the conversation. She couldn’t bear to miss out. Queen FOMO.
Well, having to keep your story idea inside is like Allison having to shut the bathroom door.
It’s like trying to go to sleep on Christmas Eve.
It’s like waiting for a closing date on your farm.
It’s like listening to the Paula Abdul station on Pandora at work and you’re not allowed to sing and dance to “Let’s Hear It For The Boy”. THE WORST.
…I think I need a writing day.

What I do in the bathroom is none of your business. Now get writing.
